So the most important announcement is that we are moving locations which really is not going to affect many of you since most of you are outside of Georgia, but those of you who are my Georgia customers, it's official, location is going to be in North Georgia Mountains area in a few months. We are building a new home so as construction pends, so will an official "move date". The sooner the better in my opinion! The downside is uprooting three kiddies of the home they have spent 11 years growing up in and being so far away from some of my family members who are close to me and nearly joined at the hip ;). Lol. The upsides though are that I will have a separate sacred space from the living quarters for SVC business and a separate sacred space for ritual and Ezili Roots my temple space. Another upside is that I will be in the Georgia Mountains, on a hilltop, with running water, a small little farm nestled in the woods. :D And yet another upside is all the great outdoor adventuring me and the family will be doing with plenty of hiking, camping, boating, swimming, we will get to do. Smaller town means more quiet time, less distractions, for more serene time to contemplate, write, paint, and meditate. The quieter the better for Mama V. :)

When to work Conjure Magick or let the Universe sort it out.
When someone first comes to me about root work or working a spell for their situation it always leads to the question "Will spell work help me?" or "What spell can I do to help my situation?" If you are a spiritual worker for others you know what I mean. ;) So, how do you know and how do you answer the question for them? Well, there is natural protocol first as a professional and ethical worker which involves listening to their background information, and taking notes of everything they have put effort into doing before seeking your help. Have they performed spell work previously on the situation and what practical solutions have they come up with and put into motion about the situation. The later to me is the foundation of working the mojo on the situation and whether or not the spell can bear fruit. Here's an example. I had a girl come to me one time, in fact this happens frequently with love work, who am I kidding, we are creatures of predictability sometimes when it comes to love... girls, you know I am right. Anyway, she writes me a letter explaining to me that her boyfriend (whom she wasn't even sure WAS indeed her boyfriend after all), had stopped talking to her out of the blue one day and it had been a week since she had heard from him which was to her abnormal and quite worrisome since for the past few months they had nearly talked daily and got along just fine, no arguments, no fuss. She asked me point blank "What spell can I do to bring him closer to me, to want to talk to me more, and think about me all the time so he will not want to be with any other girl?" Well, Ok naturally my first thought is "No fighting, no fussing, no warning, and it's only been a week". Hmmm, has she tried to contact him first instead of waiting for him to call her? Is this chicky being slightly panicky for no reason? Is she being just a little neurotic? So, my reply to her was "let's look at the obvious, on a mundane level. Have you tried contacting him?" In which she replies, "no, he usually always texts first, and I know he's not busy because I see him post a few times on facebook." So, my next reply is, "Ok, let's not be foolish, overreact, and play who's going to make the first move here. Don't get yourself in a loop of mania and obsessive behavior either, the checking up on someone posting to facebook and using this as an indicator that he might be ignoring you (which you haven't reached out yet) is beyond the level of silly games. So, contact him, try interacting and making the first move to feel him out." Sure enough, everything was fine, and she wrote to say "Thank You, I was overreacting."
Simple solutions to simple problems. Evaluate all possible sides and measure the severity of the situation. If there are really no signs of trouble at all, then most likely no conjuring needed. If you have a situation, any situation at all, first examine what you have tried on a practical level to solve your issue. What energy have you put into helping yourself?
Then you have situations that folks have no idea how to help themselves anymore; they are overwhelmed in the world, have a lot on their plate and need that extra boost in life. Keep it simple, start with basic cleansing, balancing, healing, and/or protection. As I have said before many times simple cleansing work becoming a part of your daily life can make all the difference to settle down high influences and energies present. Conjure doesn't need to be complicated, if the situation isn't out of hand. Catch it before it becomes unmanageable, don't procrastinate to see how far it will go. You might be tempting fate. Lol. Here's how I try to break it down for folks on when to work Conjure.
*Evaluate the time frame, the details, and what practical solutions have you tried.
*Get a tarot reading if you need to.
*Meditate on the answers above.
*If conjure is a possibility in your future, decide if you are dedicated to a plan of action no matter how long it will take to cure the situation.
*Keep up any practical solutions to the problem, magick is the aid to the practical solutions.
*Practical solutions can be things such as working through emotional and mental blocks with therapy, guidance, or meditation. Changing reckless behavior, changing attitudes, changing negative, obsessive thoughts and actions. Give trust to the one you love or learn to trust!
*Remember that magick will not change every detail of your desires, be flexible, trust that the spirits and universe is going to take care of your needs (not necessarily your wants). Shoot for that matter learn to distinguish between needs and wants!
*Remember that magick is an aide to the practical levels of the Universe just as much as the Spiritual levels. Some things are just out of our hands no matter if we "want" them or not.
*Magick is not a quick fix, and won't fix everything!

Working with Ancestors
Your ancestors are important to your work as a spiritual worker and believer of mystical arts. When clients come to me about starting magic or Vodou, I always tell them to get an ancestor altar set up first. Your ancestors will protect you, bless you, and guide you. Even if you think you do not have any relatives that have passed, look further back to Great Great Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, etc. Don't forget those that gave you life, if it were not for them you wouldn't be here. You have a strong blood connection to them, therefore a strong spiritual connection to them. If you call to them, they will hear you and will gladly provide you with the requests you have made. Call on them for personal guidance, protection, aid in spiritual work, or bringing about specific conditions in your life.
To set an ancestor altar, it doesn't need to be fancy, elaborate, or complicated. A simple white cloth over a table, their images, glass of water or coffee, white candle, flowers, and something that they enjoyed while living. If you are uncertain of what they had as a favorite food, cook a popular dish from your cultural ancestory, or national dish of the country they were born. Sit in front of their altar and talk to them, pray to them, remember the connection you once had, or if you didn't know them, the connection they may have had with other members of your family. Once you feel the connection ask them for what you are in need of.
Many times spiritual workers leave the altar up year round, although it isn't necessary to keep this altar up all the time, you can set it up for making a specific request then break it back down in a few days when the candle is finished if you are using a 7 day vigil. Some choose a day of the week to make offerings to their ancestors. I personally choose special times of the year, holidays, their birthday, and in times of needing some guidance as the days that I leave offerings. Your ancestors are with you everyday. Take the time to make offerings to them. Ancestor work is a very important part of the work with traditional systems such as Vodou. So I suggest that if you are thinking of Vodou, honor your ancestors first most.

Lakshmi Hindu Goddess of Prosperity, Wealth, Beauty, and Spiritual Fulfillment
Lakshmi
aka Mahalakshmi is a beautiful Hindu Goddess of prosperity, wealth,
beauty, and spiritual fulfillment. Her consort is the God Vishnu. She
brings good luck and is said to be the source of strength. She has 18
arms that carry her symbols or weapons: beads,
battle axe, trident, noose, bell, shield, sword, bow, arrow, lotus,
water pot, cudgel, thunderbolt, cup, conch, lance, sudarsana (chakra)
and mace. She presides over morality, monetary goods, fame,
knowledge, love, strength, health, beauty, victory, valor, abundance,
happiness, intelligence, etc.
Lakshmi is the embodiment of love by which is the vessel to reach God (Vishnu). She is a mother figure, much like Mother Earth in one of her forms, she can intervene in times of trouble for her devotees. It is through Lakshmi that prayers reach God. Lakshmi is the divine qualities of the most High. She is pure feminine energy, because behind every Good Man is a Good Woman. She is the power behind her Consorts.
Her time of festivals is during the month of October where devotees hold 1 day celebration to Lakshmi with chants of her 108 names, rice cakes, fruits, and other sweets. There are a few mantras used for her. Here is a mantra used for Lakshmi: Om Shreem Hreem Maha lakshimi Namaha
This video below can be downloaded and has a longer mantra that you may use as well. :) I personally do not use music like this, but it gives you a good pronunciation of the mantra.
The music is slightly distracting so I would just write down the mantra, listen to its pronunciation and use it with your works with her.

Erzulie Freda Mistress of Love, Beauty, & Femininity
Maitresse Erzulie Freda, one of the most beloved Loas of the Vodou religion is the Loa of Love, Beauty, and Femininity. Similar Spirits or Goddesses from other pantheons include Aphrodite, Isis, Virgin Mary, Lilith, Astarte, Kamadeva, Innana, and Oshun. Although they may seem similar they are not the same spirit or achetype. When working with the Loa, Maitresse Erzulie Freda Dahomey, she requires particular offerings and responds well to extravagant gifts such as pearls, shells, gold and gems, jewelry, a nice feminine french perfume, floral waters, toiletries, and a vanity set. Her offerings are of the finest wines, sweet liquors, special sweet drinks made from cane sugar alcohols, fruits such as melons, french and creole cuisines and fancy deserts. Her altar is adorned in fabrics of fine silk, lace, sequins, in white, pink, pale blues or blues of the Sea. She is lust, sensuality, pleasure and passion, femininity, beauty, love, desire, eloquence, luxuries, glamor, and delicacy, but she should not be taken for a fool or priss, for she is most powerful in her magic and breaks the most powerful wanga, and she is quick to correct her devotee and express her dissatisfaction, which is putting it mildly. She is what resides in every woman. She is the Moon, mysterious, emotional, light and dark. She is a water Loa. She is a cool spirit, or Rada Loa. She is passionate about life and love. She is flirty, loves to dance, loves to
laugh, loves a party, will be the Queen of High Class when she walks in the room, all eyes and attention only for her, AND, her space must be clean and fresh. She has high demands for her perfect world, she can act spoiled and even bitchy. Her horse will find themselves often left in tears. Erzulie weeps from the broken heart of a broken and disappointing world after all. She is the wife of three Loas, Met Ogou, Met Agwe, and Danbala and the Mistress of other Loas. Often you will see images of Mater Dolorosa, or the Virgin Mary on her altars along with her offerings, gifts, and husbands. Her colors are light blue, pink, and white, although she will come to you in other colors depending on her message she is trying to convey to you. The Loa will come to you in dreams to teach you, and so will your Erzulie, to show you what she wants from you as offerings. Erzulie can come to you in dreams as a beautiful mulatto or white woman, (she was a rich white woman, a Queen in her time on earth according to legends), or she will come as one of her other symbolic forms such as a little snake, or something that seems familiar to you that represents feminine beauty. She's the girl who walks past the mirror 50 times a day to just admire her own reflection. She walks with grace and poise. She may even act like the queen of an empire, but has delicate, soft, and luscious skin and features and posture. She will bring her loved ones wealth, beauty, health, protection, and happiness. She can be called to help enhance your magickal skills especially in divination. She shouldn't, however, be called to bring love, as she can bring the love she desires and it usually isn't the one you are compatible with! She can be very jealous as well, can cause complications in a relationship, it's best to keep your private love life out of the path of Erzulie Freda. Where Erzulie is, her husbands should be close by for balance. She seems to be snooty and picky, but she loves GREATLY especially her devotees.
Erzulie Freda is just one of many Erzulies. Each Erzulie has a different face, a different personality. Some other Erzulies are Grann Erzulie, Erzulie Dantor, Erzulie Mansur. Each one is unique, has particular offerings, prayers, and songs.
This is a song for Maitresse Erzulie Freda that you can use for your private workings with her.

Back up and writing!
The last few months have been quite busy here at the botanica and Ezili Roots Temple!
We've had several events and feasts including our 10th anniversary celebrating Fet Gede, which began as a small group of workers to what has become an amazing event with lots of old and new friends coming to join us here for a wonderful ritual and feast. In December I will be having a few events that you won't want to miss out on, November 23 marked the first of a long ahead tradition of Friendsgiving where peeps brought leftover yummies and I cooked Turkey, potatoes, stuffing, gravy, and Lord I can't even remember what else now, lol, and on December 26th, we are doing it again for friends old and new. As the holidays were approaching this year I reflected on how much I love my family and my friends just as they are a part of my extended family and although we usually come together for solstice and New Years, I wanted to share (and feed them, cause that's what I do... :D) with them the holiday spirit, especially for those who do not have family close in town, or at all. If you know my personality, I am a giver and a Mama who loves to nurture and make a warm cozy home for even my friends. :) Well... come December I'll do it again, day after Christmas, so be sure to let me know if you would like to come join us. :)
In the midst of cooking, holiday shopping, family gatherings, working my TAIL off, wrapping up the last weeks of school before the holiday break for my youngeons, I have received several good reviews on the website and new subscribers to the newsletter (which a few will be coming out shortly this month that post the monthly events here with Ezili Roots and some recipes for the holidays, maybe even a few recipes for some root work ;) ).

Spiritual Bathing/Washing
![]() |
I have also described several recipes in my blogs for cleansings and attraction baths.
However, what I want to write about today though is the idea, purpose, and "how to" aspects of Spiritual Bathing.
A Spiritual Bath is a form of magickal practice that is performed in connection to the body, the subtle body, inner, outer, and the Aethryl planes that surround us. Traditions of Christianity, African Diaspora, Hindu, Islam, Jewish, and many others relied on forms of washing the spirit and body for preparing for their practices and prayers. In Islam, it is tradition to wash the face, arms, the front of the head, neck, and feet before prayer of purification. In Hindu, a special event called Naimittika is hosted that can sometimes include millions of participants in a spiritual washing in the waters of the Ganges and Jumna (sacred rivers) for a particular deity. In Vodou practices, there are spiritual baths used in rituals for healing or protection.
When taking a Spiritual Bath or Washing, special waters, plants, resins, colognes, and prayers are used. What is used depends on the type of energies that are being worked, invoked, removed, healed, etc. A bath can be a simple sprinkling with holy water on the body to cleanse the spirit of the individual. Or it can be as elaborate as a washing under the Saut-d'Eau Waterfall of Haiti.
A washing can be done from the head to the feet, or just one localized area such as a foot washing.
It's performed by Priests, Priestess', Bishops, and a variety of other Spiritual workers. It can also be performed on the self by a single individual, no special titles necessary, no special training necessary.
If you have a home with a tub it makes life the easiest, but it's not necessary to have a tub. Many small apartments only have showers, and I have had some islanders report to me that they only have a shower, no tub available. In the case of no tub, you can use a metal or glass pan to "catch" the washing water from the "bathing". You just need to sit the catch pan (or bowl) at your feet. If you are physically dirty from the days events, shower with soap first then prepare for the spiritual washing.
To begin a washing in which you are going to use the tub or shower, first prepare your special herbs, plants, colognes, hoodoo formulas, etc. This could be by bringing the bottle of hoodoo bath to the bathroom with you or by boiling fresh or dried ingredients over a stove in a sauce pan, draining the herb mixtures (add colognes last so they do not evaporate), and bringing the water mixture to the bathroom. Bring any candles and incense with you. Run your bath water or shower, light your candles and set at opposite sides that you will be stepping through between them and standing to dry off. I generally set them at the either sides of the edge of the tub placed so that I will be standing between them when I step out to dry.
If you are using a bath tub, pour the water and herb mixture into the tub of water. If it's a shower, place it in a safe place to not spill it until you are ready to pour it. Stand or sit in the tub or shower of water for a few minutes to concentrate on your intention. Recite your intention aloud. Next use a cup to pour the herb mixture over your head 7, 9, 11, or 13 times, depending on your intent such as 7 for luck, 9 for love, 13 for uncrossing, and so forth. There is not a right or wrong way to determine this, it usually depends on how you were taught how to bathe spiritually. If you are bringing in energies, typically you wash upwards from feet to head. If you are cleansing or driving away energies, wash downwards from head to feet. Use a prayer of your choice, a psalm, or any prayer of intent will do just fine. Meditate or visualize on your goal. You might decide to state the same prayer again a certain amount of times as well, that is pertinent to your goal.
Once you feel you are tuned to the proper energies you are working, step out of the tub or shower. Stand between the two candles, recite the prayer again. Focus your intent. At this point you may want to use the incense to start at the feet and allow the smoke to rise up around your legs and upward. Air dry, if this isn't possible, at least pat dry lightly. Many root workers advise that you air dry completely. I see this as important, but I have clients that tell me that they have one special towel that is solely used for spiritual bathing and they use this special towel only. Either way, do what you were taught. Afterwards, you should dress in clean clothes and go about your day. Take a cup of the water from the bath, or the pan used to catch the water and use in a floor wash as the same intent to wash your floors (front to back for bringing in good vibrational energies or back to front to remove the negative vibrational energies). A second cup should be saved to throw to the rising east (attracting) or setting west (removal). How many times a week or month should also be determined by the goal and how severe the case is.
Difficult cases should be done daily or at minimum 3 times a week. As time progresses and the situation improves, tapering off to once a week then once a month.

Quicky Note On Sexing Up Your Lover
Some hot herbs to spice up your man and get him ready for some hot lovin':
- Damiana, Patchouli, High John Root, Sampson Snake Root, Catnip, Cherry Bark or Wild Cherry Bark, and Juniper Berries, your pubic hair cut finely in small pieces. Use this combo for a powder to sprinkle on Penis shaped figural candles. Inscribe his full name in the candle first. OR write a petition out with his name and yours over top of his, with the intention around the outside of the names in a full circle. Something like "hotsexpassionateloveaffair" or something of the sorts!
- Steep Damiana herb in your favorite wine or Amaretto liquor for a few weeks, the longer the stronger.
- Make a concoction of of Damiana, Sampson Snake Root, Juniper Berry, Honey, and add your girly essence for an aphrodisiac tea. Don't over do the herbs ladies ;)
- If you give your man likes a good oily massage, try infusing the herbal mixture into a bottle of Almond oil for a month, then use during your tender loving session all over him while burning a 7 day red candle that has been dressed with the herb mixture or a few drops of the prepared massage oil. Be sure to write your intention on the candle, and charge your massage oil for a sexy good time. I am sure he will Thank You in the A.M. Lol.

Saints Cosmas & Damian
Feastday: September 26
Patron of Druggist
Patron of Druggist
Sts. Cosmas
and Damian were brothers, born in Arabia, who had become eminent for
their skill in the science of medicine. Being Christians, they were
filled with the spirit
of charity and never took money for their services. At Egaea in
Cilicia, where they lived, they enjoyed the highest esteem of the
people. When the persecution under Diocletian
broke out, their very prominence rendered them marked objects of
persecution. Being apprehended by order of Lysias, governor of Cilicia,
they underwent various torments about the year 283. Their feast day is September 26th. They are patron saints of pharmacists."- source: http://www.catholic.org/saints/saint.php?saint_id=471

When to use Luck and Love Magick
Love and Luck, desires that all humans have.
Cleansing work is always a must even if you are not a worker (spiritual worker), but also for those who come in daily contact with people (working retail, restaurant service, etc.) Keeping a clean spiritual temple (your body), keeps you in balance, allowing for free flow of energy to travel within as well as allowing to receive energy from outside sources and integrate these energies into your being, metaphysically speaking. Crap gets built up, period. Clean house, peeps. Inside and Out (you and your house).
So, you have your spirit clean, purified, wiping the funk off your back, now what? For some, this is all they need to live a quiet, happy life; they feel pure, the table has been cleared. And for the others... Cleansing work is part one to a whole magickal regimen. For these folks, it's a balance of sweeping out the dirt and bringing in freshness and newness. The important thing here is to be sure you have followed a regular cleansing routine, clearing out cobwebs in your spirit, temple, and house. When you are not clean, luck is down, and can not come through a dirty vessel (the vessel being you). You will bring more sorrow and disappointment in your life if you try to use luck and attraction magick if you are not cleansed. Some folks just don't understand this. They want luck and love magick to fix their issue, just building on top of more failure and disappointment. It's like the "brown paper bag effect". If you have molded fruit nearby fresh fruit, it's release of ethylene gas will likely speed up the ripening of the fresh fruit before it can be enjoyed and it too will mold quicker, it's useless, not edible. Then you realize you just wasted 5 dollars on some kiwi fruit you will never get to enjoy. Disappointment, a small one, but hey if you keep buying those kiwi's and they keep ripening too fast, you might want to double check that fridge to see if you have some old moldy fruit in there hiding behind the mayo. If you use attraction magick without having kept yourself cleansed, you will be inviting failure. You might be kicking yourself at that point for even spending the time, energy, money, etc. building on top of chaos, beating your head against a wall to try to figure out why everything you are trying isn't working, working yourself into further self doubt. It's that simple. Ok, So did I stress the point enough here, CLEAN house. And yourself. :D
This is a bath that you can create with the intention of opening doors and bringing in a little luck and love your way. It's very simple to do. It can be performed weekly or even three days a week to bring in some luck in friendship, opportunities, love, and money.

All Luck Bath ~ Coconut milk, Fresh Basil, Cinnamon, and Honey. Coconut
for the open door spirits. Basil for peace and cooperation from others.
Cinnamon for luck in money and love. Honey for sweetening people to
you. Make small doses of this bath so it doesn't go rancid. Pray over
the concoction after it's prepared by using your favorite luck prayer,
psalm, or charge of intent. Use three times a week after regular
showering.
While bathing, use a prayer of your choice, meditating on the open roads to love, beauty, happiness. Burn a light blue candle, a tea light is fine. When you are done with your bath, pinch out the candle and use for the next bath. No controlling or demanding thoughts over others should be a part of this type of work. You are asking the spirits of the doorways to be open to you, and inviting peace, love, and luck into your life.

eBay bans magickal products
So, the eBay has done it once again, with it's famous botching of regulations, censorship, and now discriminating move on the pagan, witches, and other eclectic beliefs. This simply means, that I can no longer sell on eBay's overrated, overpriced, webstore. Well, Ok, it's been time for a change for a long time. We all saw this coming in the end. So, it's time to move on, and that I am happily doing. There will be many more new websites that will take over the money munching hog machine, eBay. Etsy, I don't believe will get there any time soon. It's small still, after the last 5 years I have been on it. They don't drive the much needed advertising and customer database that us eBay store owners have had the luxury in. Over the last few years, I have pretty much justified the extremely high fees and multiple fees of eBay, (monthly store fee, insertion fee, 12% final fee value, shipping fee final value) to count towards monthly advertising. Will I take that saved money and apply to monthly advertising? You betcha, but still save quite a bit. I am more sickened and appalled at the fact that they will easily get barely any grief over their new bans and policies. What's further disturbing to note, is that in a conference, one spokesperson claims that while incense and candles will still be allowed, intangible products which they deem "potions" or rather our hoodoo powders, hoodoo oils, ritual oils, etc. are banned. Now how in the world does this make sense? Candle-- -- oil-- -- ummm... What was that Mr. President? So, I can sell a candle in which a customer will be meditating with and saying prayers over, but potions are banned. Here's a list of what is banned, according to the new seller guide. http://pages.ebay.com/sellerinformation/news/fallupdate2012/categoryupdates.html
